11 categories. 580+ trailers in stock. 15 years of experience.
PrimeLoad Trailers stocks 20+ contractor trailers from Car Mate, ATC, and Nitro. Contractor trailers are enclosed cargo trailers spec'd with daily-use upgrades: side workbenches, internal shelving, electrical packages, finished interiors, and lockable storage. Free nationwide delivery to all 50 US states from our Underhill, Vermont yard.
Functionally, a contractor trailer IS an enclosed cargo trailer. The difference is in the spec sheet. Standard cargo trailers come bare (4 walls, floor, and ceiling). Contractor packages add the upgrades that turn a cargo trailer into a mobile workshop: finished interior (smooth aluminum or finished plywood walls), interior 110V electrical package (outlets and lights with shore power inlet), internal shelving and ladder racks, side man-doors for fast walk-in access, and reinforced flooring for tool-cart loads.
Sizing: Most contractor trailers run 7x14 to 8.5x20. The 7x14 fits a 2-person crew daily tool inventory and can be towed behind a 3/4-ton pickup. The 8.5x20 handles larger crews, more equipment, or doubles as a mobile workshop with workbenches and shelving. Larger than 8.5x24 starts running into commercial license territory and requires more truck.
V-nose vs flat front: For contractor trailers, V-nose is almost always worth it. The 18 to 24 inches of additional usable length matters more in a contractor trailer than in a general cargo trailer because contractors typically max out their interior space with shelving and gear. The aerodynamic benefit also matters more for daily-driven contractor rigs hauling 50+ miles per day.
Side door is essential for contractor use. Walking in through the rear ramp door means raising and lowering the ramp every time you grab a tool. A 32 inch or 36 inch side man-door with a folding step lets you walk in without ramp operation. For high-frequency tool access (electricians, plumbers, HVAC), a side man-door is non-negotiable.
Electrical and lighting: The standard contractor electrical package includes 110V shore power inlet, 2 to 4 110V outlets, and 4 to 6 12V LED interior lights. For specialty trades (welding, electrical, HVAC), upgrade to a heavier electrical package with 30A or 50A service and additional outlets. Most contractors also add an exterior 110V floodlight for early-morning loading.
Three brands cover the contractor segment with different feature emphases.
Pennsylvania-based contractor specialist with 6+ models in our inventory. V-nose configurations, side man-doors, and finished interiors are standard. Common in the 7x12 to 7x14 range. Strong fit for general contractor and trades use.
Premium aluminum contractor trailers. Higher upfront cost; longer service life in salt environments and daily-use scenarios. Good fit for contractors who tow 50+ miles per day or store outdoors in winter states.
Specialty contractor and snowmobile cargo. Some overlap with our Cargo trailer category. Reinforced ramps and cold-weather packages.
Trade-specific uses for contractor trailers.
Daily-driven trailers carrying power tools, hand tools, sawhorses, ladders, and material loads. 7x14 V-nose with side door and electrical package is the standard spec.
Wire spools, panels, conduit, fixtures, and test equipment. Upgraded electrical package (30A service, more outlets) for in-trailer testing. Heavier shelving for wire weight.
Pipe, fittings, fixtures, and PEX coils. Reinforced flooring for heavy material loads. Multiple shelving levels for organization. Often spec'd with bumper-mounted ladder rack.
Compressors, line sets, ductwork, and recovery equipment. Heavy-duty electrical package, reinforced flooring, and external compartments for refrigerant recovery storage.
Lawn mowers, edgers, blowers, and bagged materials. Some overlap with utility/landscape trailer category. Enclosed contractor trailers protect equipment from theft and weather between jobs.
Tool inventory, parts, fluids, and diagnostic equipment. Heavier electrical package for power tool use, reinforced flooring for parts loads, and security upgrades for high-value tool inventory.

Functionally, contractor trailers ARE cargo trailers. The difference is the upgrade package: side man-doors, finished interiors, internal shelving, electrical packages, ladder racks. You can spec a cargo trailer with these upgrades and have a contractor trailer.
For solo contractor or 2-person crew daily use: 7x12 to 7x14 V-nose. For 3+ person crew or heavy material loads: 7x16 to 8.5x20. For mobile workshop use with workbenches and shelving: 8.5x20+. Tell us your trade and crew size, we will spec it.
Yes for most contractors. The 110V shore power inlet plus 2 to 4 outlets and LED interior lights pays for itself within months in worker convenience and end-of-day cleanup time. For specialty trades, upgrade to 30A service.
Side man-door is essential for daily contractor use. Without it, every tool grab requires raising and lowering the rear ramp door. The man-door pays for itself in time savings within weeks of daily use.
Yes. Most manufacturers offer factory ladder racks, exterior toolboxes, and tongue-mounted toolboxes. We spec these at order time. Aftermarket installations also work but cost more after the trailer is built.
