Why a 20K Gooseneck Dump?
The 20,000 lb GVWR class sits between the 14K consumer-contractor dumps and full commercial 30K+ rigs. For paving and aggregate fleets running medium-haul cycles (10-30 mile radius), a 20K gooseneck dump moves about 13,000 lb of usable payload per cycle, roughly 35 percent more than a 14K trailer. The 12-inch I-beam frame is built for the punishment that 13K+ payloads put on the structure. Pintle ring coupler (rather than ball coupler) means easier hitching for fleet operators who switch trailers between trucks regularly.
What Can You Haul?
- 13,000 lb of crushed stone, gravel, or aggregate (about 5 cubic yards)
- 13,000 lb of asphalt millings or RAP for paving prep
- Heavy demolition debris (concrete, brick, structural steel)
- Coal or coal slurry for mining-feed operations
- Compact construction equipment (loaded skid steer plus full attachment package)

Frequently Asked Questions
Pintle ring vs ball coupler on a gooseneck dump?
This Horizon HZH uses a pintle ring coupler (42K lb rating) which is the commercial-fleet standard. Pintle hitches are quicker to connect and disconnect, more forgiving of slight angle misalignment, and rated higher than equivalent-size ball couplers. Trade-off: requires a pintle hitch on the tow vehicle (not standard on consumer pickups).
What truck do I need to pull this fully loaded?
20,000 lb GVWR plus the truck weight will push combined gross above 26,000 lb, requiring a Class A CDL operator. Most fleets pull this with a 1-ton dually (F-450 / Ram 4500) or larger. The pintle ring + 4-foot sides configuration is typical for commercial fleets, not consumer use.
What does the diamond mesh wire floor toolbox do?
The toolbox sits forward of the bed, providing storage that drains water (mesh floor) and lets light through. Sized for chains, binders, ramp pins, gloves, and small parts. Lockable with a padlock.
