14LX vs 14LP: Which to Choose?
Both are 14,000 lb GVWR, both have scissor lifts, both have 7K axles. The 14LX uses a channel frame and 7K jack; the 14LP uses a tube frame and 12K jack. Result: 14LX is 540 lb lighter (more payload), 14LP is slightly heavier-spec (longer service under daily abuse). For landscape and snow contractors maxing payload per cycle, the 14LX wins. For operators dropping skid steers and equipment weekly, the 14LP’s tube frame is worth the payload trade-off.
Power or Gravity Down: Why Selectable Matters
The 14LX hydraulic system lets you choose: power down for controlled bed return (slow, no slamming) or gravity down for fast cycle time. Most contractors switch between modes depending on the load: power down for fragile loads or partial dumps, gravity down for high-cycle aggregate work. Other dumps lock you into one mode.

What is the difference between 14LX and 14LP scissor dumps?
14LX uses channel frame (lighter, more payload). 14LP uses tube frame (slightly heavier-duty, slightly less payload). Both are scissor lift, both 14K GVWR. For most contractor use, either works; for max payload, choose 14LX.
Does channel frame mean weaker?
For 14K GVWR applications, no. Channel frame is rated and engineered for the 14K spec. Tube frame is over-spec’d for 14K, sized for the heavier-duty applications where the same trailer carcass might be up-rated. For 14K daily use, channel is the right-sized choice.
Why is the 14LX 540 lb lighter than the 14LP?
Channel frame uses less steel than tube frame. The structural channel is lighter per linear foot than equivalent-strength tube. Big Tex engineers the channel frame to meet the same load ratings at lower weight, by using better steel and tighter cross-bracing. End result: more payload per trip without sacrificing structural rating.
